A veteran journalist and Media Executive, with a wealth of experience in both the print and electronic media that spans nearly 40 years, Phil has joined the immedia ecosystem as a director and a member of the executive committee. He has spent the greater part of his professional career in Public Service Broadcasting, covering all corners of the trade – news reporting, producing documentaries, studio production, anchor and Executive Management.

Phil has served in Senior Management and Executive positions in the corporate world for more than 20 years. He was Group Executive: News & Current Affairs of the SABC. He also served at the helm of the Corporation as Acting Group CEO in 2011 – 2012. He is the Executive Chairperson of the Africa Media Institute and Media Knowledge (Pty) Ltd – providing training and media expertise to a network of Public Broadcasters in Africa.

Phil is currently the Chairperson of the Board of the National Film and Video Foundation – the preeminent custodian of the development and promotion of Film and documentaries in South Africa. He is also the Director of Discop Africa Academy – training film and TV documentary producers. Phil has extensive corporate experience in Media both in South Africa and Internationally. He has served as the Vice President of the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association as well as Executive Member of the African Union of Broadcasting. He has conducted media training across Africa and helped build several TV stations on the continent.
